What is Ichini?

Ichini (いちに) means "one-two" in Japanese - representing the step-by-step approach to learning. It's a completely free Japanese learning platform that combines modern technology with traditional learning methods, backed by neuroscience research and aligned with JLPT standards.

Our Mission

After discovering that 87% of people quit learning Japanese before reaching conversational level, I set out to build something different. Not another app that throws kanji at you from day one, but a structured system that respects how your brain actually learns Japanese.

Ichini is built on three core principles:

• Progressive Learning: Master hiragana before kanji, sounds before symbols
• Cultural Context: Understand not just what to say, but why and when
• Evidence-Based Methods: Every feature is backed by research, not trends

Why Free?

Learning a language should not be a luxury. While companies charge $20-50/month for language apps, I believe quality education should be accessible to everyone. Ichini will always be free - no subscriptions, no premium tiers, no locked content.

What Makes Ichini Different?

🧠 Neuroscience-Based Sequencing

Your brain processes Japanese characters differently than English. We respect that by introducing scripts in the optimal order: hiragana → katakana → kanji, with proper spacing between each.

✍️ Handwriting Integration

Studies show handwriting improves character retention by 40-70%. That's why we include both reading and writing modes, using traditional stroke order patterns.

🎯 Clear Progression Path

From absolute beginner to JLPT N1, every level has clear goals, time estimates, and milestones. You always know where you are and where you're going.

Language is culture. We don't just teach grammar rules - we explain the cultural context, politeness levels, and social situations where different expressions are used.

The Journey Ahead

Currently, Level 1 is complete with full hiragana, numbers, and basic sentences. Levels 2-5 are being developed following JLPT standards, with each level building naturally on the previous one.
